Will There Be Money In The Future

It’s not astrology, but I just have to post this great film at this time. We are starting to wake up as if from a very bad dream that has lasted thousands and thousands of years. Steve Saylor is going to give you just a little nudge out of your sleep. I feel inspired … let’s do it.

The Zeitgeist Movement, the Venus Project, the Freeworld Charter, a New World Society, many Resource Based Economy sites, and many, many others are all trying to make people aware of the unsustainable future in an infinite-growth monetary system.

The Occupy Movements have yet to define the long-term goal, but I think everyone is comprehending the inherent flaws and corruption in the money-based economic models of the past. The Moon – A Ring-Pass-Not?

After having stepped inside Sylvia’s tormented mind, I had to pull myself together to take a more pragmatic look at our enigmatic Moon. But it wasn’t long before I felt a sense of disturbance yet again …

Since posting a long list of lunar anomalies in “Strange Moon” (5 May 2012), and “Strange Moon II – Nano Soil” (15 June 2012), the suggestion that the moon is artificial has troubled me. Science is unable to provide a working theory for the Moon’s existence, which leads us to speculate and explore, and to ask more questions – in line with humanity’s long tradition of discovery and understanding.

What if it were true that the Moon is artificial, that it was intentionally hauled here aeons ago? The implications for the entire world would be unimaginable, ultranormal. Who could have put the giant Moon into orbit around us? How did they do it? And, profoundly, WHY?

Amazingly, one of the most remote recollections of mankind relates to a time when the Earth was Moonless. Immanuel Velikovsky’s research quotes everyone from Democritus and Anaxagoras to Aristotle and Apollonius of Rhodes to show that such an ancient time existed.  Those pre-Adamite humans living then were called Pelasgians, Proselenes (“before the Moon”), and Arcadians (pre-Danai and pre-Deukalion). They were said to have dwelt in the mountains, fed on acorns, and lived as aborigines (Velikovsky, www.varchive.org/itb/sansmoon.htm).

Another ancient tradition ascribed the origins of Moon worship to the Adam. The medieval Arab scholar Abubacer wrote:

They [the Sabaeans] say that Adam was born from male and female, just like the rest of mankind, but they honored him greatly, and said that he had come from the Moon, that he was the prophet and apostle of the Moon, and that he had exhorted the nations that they should serve the Moon … They also related about Adam that when he had left the Moon and proceeded from the area of India towards Babylonia, that he brought many wonders with him.

Ancient Hebrew tales speak of a different world in the times before the fall of the new human creation, Adam. Then the Sun shone permanently, there was no rain but a mist ascended from the soil and condensed on the leaves of plants. When Adam ‘sinned’  (the Sumerian Moon God was named ’Sin’) the Sun darkened and set for the first time, and the Earth was no longer independent. She was hereafter to wait to be watered from above. “The very angels and celestial beings were aggrieved by the transgression of the Adam. The Moon alone laughed …”(Ginzberg, Legends I 80)

The Moon has a direct and physical relationship with Earth, her waters, and all living beings. The lunar 28-day cycle coincides with the human menstrual cycle, giving widespread belief that the Moon is directly related to fertility. It has been claimed that surgeons in the past refused to operate on the Full Moon because blood clotting is not effective during this period. There are legendary connections between the Moon and vampirism, and also werewolves and other mythical creatures of the night. Madness, lunacy, has long associations with the Moon.

Astrologically, the Moon symbolizes the inner life, private and unguarded. It is that aspect of our nature that acts on instinct. In times of great stress these qualities become more exposed and can make a person feel strangely out of control. The lunar personality is built upon the foundations and root feelings of the past. It is subliminal, and perceived only vaguely through our interactions with others. As it reflects the light of the Sun, so the lunar symbolism represents a reflection of accumulated past experience and behaviour patterns that are familiar and comfortable. The Moon represents unconscious conditioning, and unconscious patterns of reaction and interaction with the world. It is the significant part of us that lives within the mirror’s reflection.

Because of its intrinsically unconscious properties, the astrological Moon is complex. It profoundly influences the psyche, manifesting in deeply entrenched and often irrational habits and security needs. The lunar qualities crave predictable kinds of repetitive activity and situations, and deny novelty and experimentation. The Moon is past-oriented and future-denying; disturbingly, a human being has only the vaguest awareness of how this instinctual, subliminal interaction with the world deeply influences his or her life (please also see Horizon programme, Secret World of the Unconscious Mind)

I have meditated and reflected for a long time on the mystery of this collective sleep-walking. It is as if the world has been bewitched, and awareness dimmed to a guttering candle flame. Can it be that our enchantment is a form of restriction or containment, for which the Moon fulfils the role of a ring-pass-not?

A ring-pass-not is a profoundly mystical and suggestive term, signifying a circle or bounds or frontiers that contains the consciousness of those who suffer the delusion of separateness. It’s an imposed limit in spiritual, intellectual, or psychological consciousness, beyond which an individual is unable to pass until he evolves the vision to carry him forward and over karmic limits. A ring-pass-not is also called a dhyanipasa (rope of the dhyanis or angels) that hedges off the phenomenal from the noumenal cosmos (Theosophical Society).

The idea of being restricted, perhaps because of our immaturity (or sins?) made me recall a passage from ‘Childhood’s End’ by Arthur C Carke, in which Karellen tells humanity, “The planets you may one day possess, but the stars are not for man.” He and his kind were sent to protect humanity from ‘the powers and forces that lie among the stars – forces beyond anything that you can ever imagine’.

Whilst a futurist at the Stanford Research Institute in 1977, Alfred Webre wrote his groundbreaking work, “Exopolitics: Politics, Government and Law in the Universe“. Central to Webre’s exopolitics model is the hypothesis that Earth has been quarantined within a highly-populated, organized, and advanced Universe society. It’s not clear why the planetary quarantine was established in the first place, but it is suggested that some kind of catastrophic planetary rebellion, or other key event in Earth’s exopolitical past, may have played a role.

Grant Lewi, in Astrology for the Millions, offered a romantic description of the Moon;

 It’s when you know what you mean but you can’t say it … the thoughts that lie too deep for tears … It’s the wordless ecstasy, the mute sorrow, the secret dream, the esoteric picture of yourself that you can’t get across to the world, or which the world doesn’t comprehend or value …

These words are sentimental and appealing, but they do not deal with the fact that the Moon in human nature is karmic, regressive and completely ‘past orientated’. Yet, the Moon has soothed us too, and comforted us, and inspired some of the greatest music ever written;

Whatever the Moon is, maybe we who are unconscious create our own rings-pass-not,for these might not after all be material frontiers, but boundaries of consciousness. As an animal cannot recognise its own reflection in a mirror due to a lack of self-consciousness, so a general ring-pass-not for humanity could  be its inability to self-consciously participate in spiritual self-consciousness. If our Earth and all its beings were quarantined, I believe that has now ended and we have entered the decade of contact. We are being called to rise up, to become conscious as we have never been before, and we must “Expect the unexpected and live in the miraculous moment of synchronous creation” (Alfred Webre). Growing up in the big Universe is hard.

I was sent a very interesting youtube filmpiece last night by a friend. It concerned the electrical reality of a living universe and featured David Talbott, whose work is based on the alternative and once-ridiculed paradigm of Immanuel Velikovsky. I was going to feature the information in a future offering here on the blogsite.

But then this morning I was sent this piece assembled by Zen Gardner. Synchronicity. I’m just re-posting it as it is. I hope it provides more food for thought.

Are Stars Celestial Water Springs?

Stellar sprinklers may help irrigate cosmos, study suggests.

“Seven hundred and fifty light-years from Earth, a young, sunlike star has been found with jets that blast epic quantities of water into interstellar space, shooting out droplets that move faster than a speeding bullet.

 The discovery suggests that protostars may be seeding the universe with water. These stellar embryos shoot jets of material from their north and south poles as their growth is fed by infalling dust that circles the bodies in vast disks.

“If we picture these jets as giant hoses and the water droplets as bullets, the amount shooting out equals a hundred million times the water flowing through the Amazon River every second,” said Lars Kristensen, a postdoctoral astronomer at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

“We are talking about velocities reaching 200,000 kilometers [124,000 miles] per hour, which is about 80 times faster than bullets flying out of a machine gun,” said Kristensen, lead author of the new study detailing the discovery, which has been accepted for publication in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.”  Source

Water from stars. This amazingly produced combination of hydrogen and oxygen may just be one of the prime building blocks of the Universe. And our planet’s dependence on it attests to its importance.

But it flies in the face of current nuclear fission theory that excludes such a possibility. They’ve said up to this point hydrogen and oxygen combine to form water for micro-seconds and then it’s gone. Hmm. Wonder how these “water bullets” make it out to the rest of the Cosmos?

“Oops, there goes another science ‘fact’….”

Reminds me of the infinite points in a line, or the innumerable vectors making a circle. We see the line or circle as a defining line, but they’re infinite combinations gathered into what is to us a very shallow perception. We live at that lower plane of perception physically and mentally, but not spiritually.

And we need to perceive life spiritually to begin to understand true reality. Not the other way around.

The Underlying Issue with So-called Science

If some strictly defined, or directed and thereby restricted, thought discipline is so boxed in they tend to discard anything contrary to current theses or understandings, I don’t trust it. There may be some stand alone truths in there, but don’t talk to me about context and how it “fits” in the microverse of your left-brain, ruler-dominated control systems.

Fact is, we’re on the verge of incredible breakthroughs, not just of science, but of understanding and perception. It’s been anticipated, even if with trepidation:

“The most merciful thing in the world … is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents… The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but someday the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality… That we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.” – H. P. Lovecraft

Or…the revelation will be so empowering a new day will dawn no one could have perceived. But not without it’s bumps and scrapes.

Enter the Electric Universe

This understanding of the Universe is gaining traction fast. And well worth investigating.

There’s a whole world to explore there that may well explain our fantastic Universe we observe way better than we’ve been told. Fact is, we live in an expanding, giving, creative cosmos that only waits to be explored and utilized.

That kind of empowerment is not looked upon kindly by our controllers, truth be told. They want dependency. Hence the information clampdown.

If you haven’t realized that yet, you’ll continue to be tooled and channeled wherever they want the rest of your days. And it’s usually based on an underlying need for security. Again, you feel you need that because “they” created the underlying paradigms of the latest “terrorists” or “scarcity” bogey men to keep you in place.

Shake that fast.

Remain Open and Look for New Horizons

We need to remain open. We need to hold to our spiritual convictions that not only are things not as they seem, but neither are they as we are told. So called science is the perfect illustration of this principle.

As is the so-called educational system. If it’s building us up, giving us practical, insightful stepping stones, fine. If it’s limiting creativity, defining our boundaries and marking off territories as taboo, no thank you.

Look for this assumptive limitation principle. It’s in everything coming at you and it’s important to discern.

 

Last of the Nine Hells

This past week I have wanted nothing more than to be alone with my feelings, to be introspective and melancholy, and re-experience past times in the light of now. I have felt unable to make connection with others, even my friends. I seem to be reliving an old time when I could only trust myself; and I think the recent Transit of Venus and her current retrograde motion are dredging all this old stuff up so that it can be released.

It began almost twenty-five years ago. The Harmonic Convergence was an astrological, and ceremonial, event that began on August 16th, 1987. It was defined by Jose Arguelles as: “the point at which the counter-spin of history finally comes to a momentary halt, and the still imperceptible spin of post-history commences.” This date represents the fulfillment of a Mayan prophecy known as the Thirteen Heavens and Nine Hells. Following the end of the Ninth Hell in 1987, humanity would enter an unprecedented age of peace and love. The Harmonic Convergence also began the final twenty-five year countdown to the end of the Mayan Long Count in 2012, which would be the end of history and the beginning of a new 26,000-year cycle.

Closer to home, on 24 August 1987 there was a beautiful and exceptional alignment creating a grand trine involving no less than eight planets. Although great things were anticipated from these celestial and mythical signs and wonders, the Earth had actually entered a five-year period of ‘cleansing’, of dealing with unfinished business in preparation for the new day to come.

I was heavily pregnant with my son that summer, and teaching astrology classes at Inverness College. Frankly, life wasn’t exactly filled with peace and love. Quantum physicists now recognise a thing they call ‘The Field’ in which all physical matter operates. It is not empty space, but more akin to the Star Wars ’Force’ that may or may not be with you, and in which you may or may not sense a disturbance. I sensed disturbance that year.

Home life was shaky, to say the least (I was to get divorced within the five-year ‘cleansing period’), and I experienced a recurring dream - I attended a kind of way station in the twilight to collect a large container, its contents loosely covered over with light fabric. I’d get directed to my container, one amongst many, and pick it up to sit on my hip. Although the size of a bathtub, it was light as a feather, and even without seeing I knew my ‘body’ was under the fabric, which gently moved as I walked. I woke up each time the fabric fluttered to reveal my very recognisable right leg. It was unsettling, a feeling exacerbated by a ‘friend’ who believed the dream was a sign that I would die in childbirth.

Whilst the ‘New Agers’ and the hippies were chanting and dancing on Mount Shasta and at Glastonbury, I was preparing for my doom. Newspapers carried stories about the Hungerford Massacre, the Great Storm that wreaked havoc across southern England, tearing down some fifteen million trees, and the disintegration of Princess Diana’s marriage, her heart and soul bared achingly raw for all the world to see. Fleetwood Mac sang Little Lies, U2, With or Without You, and Whitney Houston, Didn’t We Almost Have It All.

It’s all history now, but that year did see the end of my life. I had never known life outside of ‘normal’. I believed in, and respected, all the pillars of my society – government, the church, education, the bank manager, police, and the medical fraternity. The sweet suburban girl, who held some slightly colourful and eccentric ideas, passed out of existence in 1987.

My son was born in October 1987, and during the five years that followed he led me and my daughter out of normal and into a terrifying new existence where all that was once trusted and certain was gone. Nothing existed except ‘the flow’ … and survival. We had changed whilst the world had not, and for several years life was a series of often hair-raising adventures. When I look back, I feel humility before the invisible, benign force that protected us. Signs and encouragement were everywhere, and it seemed we only had to follow them. Eventually, the new life became ‘normal’ for us – and for the most part it was exhilarating and full of spontaneity and adventure. We were free of societal prescription and limitation, making up our lives as we went along. However it was only from around 2000 that I felt we were truly out of danger.

With hindsight, I feel that the year of Convergence announced the end of linear time, and we had jumped off the tracks. In the world of Newtonian mechanics, Gravity holds our universe in order, but it may be that the real factor that governs nature is the fractal nature of Time. Humanity is now in the process of changing the old 12:60 (twelve months in a year, 60 minutes in an hour) timing frequency to the timing of natural law, thus taking us out of time as we know it and into a multi-dimensional awareness. When we have accomplished this transformation, we will have entered a new path of spiritual and mental evolution in tune with the cycles of the universe.

The world changes initiated since 1987 have catapulted the planet into its ultimate crisis. The population has increased by almost 2 billion; the Cold War has been replaced by the even uglier war on terror; man-made and natural catastrophes occur at an accelerating frequency; deforestation and global warming continue unabated; while the technosphere has spawned the cybersphere – the pseudo-noosphere, and with it an increased personal and social confusion and anarchy.

We all need a miracle now, and 21st December 2012 could be the doorway that will help create the tipping point in human consciousness that will create the miracle! Those who do not believe what this is about will not experience much of anything. We get what we choose—there is no objective reality. Great numbers focussed in meditation on December 21, 2012—wherever you are—will create the tipping point in consciousness that can create a miracle for the Earth and humanity.

For thousands of years Earth has resonated at a frequency of 8Hz per second – she essentially seems to have been asleep (as have we). However, since the Harmonic Convergence of 1987, there have been steady increases in the Earth’s frequency. The fundamental vibration of our planet is now approaching 13 cycles per second, in line with the Fibonacci series (mathematical proportions based on the Golden Mean, also called the harmonics of the universe). Accompanying this ‘powering up’ is a rapid decrease in the magnetic field that surrounds the planet. Our magnetic field has served us in the past by creating an illusion of separation and protection from energies outside ourselves. It may eventually reach zero when there will be no artificial barriers. I will be writing more about ‘Zero Point’ in my next article, and in the meantime I wish you all a joyous and liberating week.

Gestation of Love and the Transit of Venus

Last week’s Transit of Venus left me bemused as an astrologer. I researched the phenomenon, but found nothing that seemed to fit, nothing I could feel any kind of resonance with. So I simply marked its passing here on the blog-site with a factual account and a good film courtesy of NASA. I now perceive that, at a deeply personal level, this retrograde Transit represents a ‘gestation’ period for Love; it represents an opportunity in time for all of us to reflect on Love’s place in our lives and in the world. It is time to face up to reality.

Since the Transit I have experienced several dreams significant enough to alter my waking perceptions, igniting a kind of ‘opening of the heart’ that is causing me to become more heart-fully aware of a world in great fear and suffering – and horror at the sheer scale of human acts of depravity and cruelty around the world. I have become more aware too of various movements and individuals who are mobilising in a loving way to evolve and take Humanity to a harmonious state. I am especially glad to have encountered Kevin Annett, a gentle, soft-spoken, yet very courageous and tenacious ex (yes, they threw him out) United Church of Canada Minister who has endured and struggled to reveal the hidden holocaust of Canada’s aboriginal children - not for punishment or retribution, but to try to put things right. Below is a link to a full-length documentary, which has received numerous accolades, including Best Director of an International Documentary, New York Independent Film and Video Festival, New York, November 2006, and Best International Documentary (Feature), NY Independent Film Festival, Los Angeles, March 2007. Can I see another’s woe, and not be in sorrow too? Can I see another’s grief, and not seek for kind relief?  William Blake

The almost unbelievable extent of violence, horror, death, oppression, greed and depravity that humanity has perpetrated during this long night of our dark age - in far flung places, and closer to home – reveal our species to be capable of a peculiar viciousness that takes pleasure from artistically torturing its prey. My reactions and responses have ranged across a fairly predictable spectrum of emotion; empathy and distress, frustration and anger, despair and hopelessness. I can’t change the big stuff, but yet somehow finding strength to look at it and accept it has set in motion a deep kind of inner reflection, re-evaluating and redefining what matters and how I go about my life in the world.

Venus’ retrograde motion as she transited the face of the Sun has created an opportunity to re-evaluate Love in our lives, and take care of unresolved hurts and resentments. Her retrograde motion is the gestation period of Love, and when she resumes forward motion on 27th June, I hope more and more people will overcome their feelings of fear and suspicion (mother and father of hatred), and begin to reach out to their neighbours, colleagues, and the many strangers they meet in their daily lives.

This recent transit of Venus signalled a kind of ‘awakening’ to the transformative power of Love. I don’t mean necessarily a sentimental, romantic kind of love (nothing wrong with that, by the way!) but the kind of Love that recognises we are all unique, individual cells of one whole organism called Humanity. To hurt another person is to hurt the self. War is a mad kind of self-destruction.

Coming down from global concerns to my own small existence, I realise that trust has to be a big factor in turning this world around, from the bottom up. If trust grows, fear and suspicion will just disappear. However, as we all carry around an assortment of ‘usual suspects’ in our baggage of personal insecurity - who will be willing to trust first?

I once read a story about a man who conducted an experiment. He started up a bakery business, and decided to deliver up great trays of fresh doughnuts and pastries to local businesses and factories each morning – along with an honesty box. His advisers said he was nuts, and that he’d be lucky to find a few pounds and some foreign coins in his so-called ‘honesty’ boxes at the end of each day. But they were wrong. His boxes were only ever short by around 5% each day as a small minority did not (or could not) pay. He worked out that he could easily carry this, and so his business grew from there.

What would you do if you could drop the baggage of fear? What is in your basket of gifts that insecurity is preventing you from expressing for the benefit of all? To lovingly share what we have brought with us, to be who we were meant to be regardless of notions about status, income, or pride (the currency of fear) is what will set us free. Love is about ‘taking heart’, having the courage to do the right thing, and not living in fear.

During its five-year mission, it will examine the sun’s atmosphere, magnetic field and also provide a better understanding of the role the sun plays in Earth’s atmospheric chemistry and climate.  SDO provides images with resolution 8 times better than high-definition television and returns more than a terabyte of data each day.

On June 5 2012, SDO collected images of the rarest predictable solar event–the transit of Venus across the face of the sun.  This event happens in pairs eight years apart that are separated from each other by 105 or 121 years.  The last transit was in 2004 and the next will not happen until 2117.

The videos and images displayed here are constructed from several wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light and a portion of the visible spectrum.  The red colored sun is the 304 angstrom ultraviolet, the golden colored sun is 171 angstrom, the magenta sun is 1700 angstrom, and the orange sun is filtered visible light.  304 and 171 show the atmosphere of the sun, which does not appear in the visible part of the spectrum.

The fractal nature of time is beautifully expressed in the cyclic motions of the archetypal planets. Each moment is a self-similar fractal of a previous moment along a cyclically spiralling wave of time. It means that we astrologers can make predictions. Not the kind of prediction that says “You will meet a tall dark stranger on a train on a Saturday three weeks from now”, but by following various planetary cycles we can extrapolate likelihoods anywhere along the wave, based on the established understanding of the planetary archetypes. We can do this for people, events, and entities such as nations.

The Global Scale

The current dynamic Uranus-Pluto square alignment, with Uranus at the first point of Aries on the world grid, is igniting powerful eruptions of repressed energy around the world, the intensity of which will last until around 2016. If Uranus is the Awakener and Pluto the Soul, then the square between these two transpersonal planets will bring the awakening world soul into consciousness. Shocking eruptions of energy have been happening all around the natural world in the form of earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, hurricanes and tornadoes, landslides and floods and they have been increasingly frequent and violent over the past five years or so, and may yet intensify before this period is complete.

As change accelerates all around the world, there is increased social and political turbulence, giving a voice to the youth of the world, women, ethnic minorities and all peoples and beings – human and animal - who have suffered and been denied basic rights and freedoms. In the rise of people against authoritarian oppression, the world is overthrowing the old hierarchical power structures; dictatorships have toppled in the Middle East and people around the world are awakening from their slumber – the Occupy movement being only one expression of humanity’s awakening power.

Along the same cycle, a Uranus-Pluto conjunction was the defining astrological signature of the 1960’s, which saw incredible technological innovation along with massive upwellings of desire to be free of repressive constraints – political, cultural, racial or religious. However, back then the energy was constrained by Saturn. So for every radical outburst of energy, there was also an authoritarian, conservative response ready to crush the upwelling energy back down.

This time around the two energies do not overlap and we are now rushing full steam ahead into the dangerous, exhilarating, terrifying rapids of Uranus-Pluto. We have the chance to remake the world in the way our predecessors in the 1960’s tried to do. But it also places upon us the serious responsibility of developing our own authority. The French Revolution was also part of this particular time-wave, and the potential for anarchy is every bit as present now as it was then.

The process is revealing a very dark underbelly to the organisation and power structures of our world, and many are reeling at the atrocities that have been committed in our name. We have all witnessed greed and breathtaking abuses of power as corporations and governments, in the face of change, have blatantly acted to consolidate their power, even as they collapse under their own weight. The people have reason to revolt.

Scotland’s chart is being directly influenced by the currently active Uranus-Pluto cycle, with Uranus awakening and electrifying the area of her sense of freedom, self esteem, identity, and status – and Pluto bringing into focus the need to be healed of old wounds, and for renewal. Pluto also signifies activating notions of government, and service in the global arena; what is Scotland’s ‘job’ in the world, how can she contribute to a better world? Uranus entered Aries and Scotland’s tenth house on Friday, 11th March 2011 for a seven-year sojourn, and on May 6th, as this liberating, revolutionary planet made an exact conjunction with her Midheaven, the people of Scotland overwhelmingly voted in a new parliament that was committed to independence.

Uranus will have a strong influence on Scotland’s psyche during the next several years. It is the planet of sudden awakening, enlightenment, shock, lightining fast illumination, and destruction of the old. Her strongly occupied Aries tenth house is currently being charged and inflamed with Uranian energy, hastening experimentation and new growth, and liberating her from the old chains of tradition and habit.

Scotland is being challenged to let go of her fears and desire for security, and awaken to her true state of freedom and creativity. As Uranus powerfully conjuncts her Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars over the coming several years, things are likely to happen suddenly and impulsively, with quick bursts of new ideas and originality of organisation, along with unexpected new alliances and courageous leaps into the unknown. Life might well feel disruptive as change electrifies our nation, but the overall purpose is to clear blockage, repression and fear – and usher in sweeping innovations and egalitarian freedoms of all kinds. Uranus is a liberator, illuminating what he touches like Prometheus with the gift of fire. We will need a steady hand at the helm, to keep our natural passion and impulsiveness channelled positively, and to keep us from flailing wildly around in experiments that could quickly devolve into anarchy.

After the liberating, awakening energy has swept over her tenth house, Scotland will have a clearer vision of her identity and place in the world of nations. She will see herself as others do, and move beyond stereotypes and her wounded history. If she takes up the challenges placed before her, Scotland will have opportunities to show dignified leadership in areas of humanitarian endeavour and egalitarian social organisation. Scotland can also contribute to global wellbeing through pioneering discovery, invention and technological breakthrough – perhaps in areas of renewable energies, communications and health.

Pluto holds tension at the other end of the square, in Scotland’s Capricorn sixth house. This is a planet of deep soul energies enveloping all that is repressed and hidden, the power of the unconscious, and the process of death and rebirth – this is as profound as it gets, and the action is to scour the long held, deep seated hurts, and self-defeating attitudes that Scotland holds to herself.

Significantly, Neptune occupies Scotland’s sixth house and makes dynamic natal aspects to her tenth house planets. Overall, this facet of Scotland shows her to be a strongly mystical nation, idealistic, visionary and compassionate. Pragmatists may call her ‘utopian’ – but she may confound all and attain something close to that.

Pluto relates to political power, global organisations, focussed energy or ‘underground’ institutions. Pluto conjunct Neptune in Scotland’s chart indicates a focus upon political issues and collective ideals. This is a time of deep introspective change. Pluto’s end of the alignment will cause Scotland to question her deepest beliefs and how she fits in the world at large. No area of life will remain untouched, and there may be surprises as hitherto prominent aspects of Scottish life may simply disappear as she becomes healed of old wounds and sorrows. This transit represents the death and rebirth of the Scottish soul in a tangible way.

Pluto’s transit of Capricorn until 2020 signifies that we are part of a global death and rebirth that will be every bit as potent and far-reaching as the industrial and democratic revolutions of the 1760’s and 1770’s. And very probably even more so. The previous Pluto in Capricorn cycle saw a gigantic shift in the way our world went about its business. In a very short time we moved from a life based on families, small villages, living on the land and artisanal labour to a massive migration to the cities and the dawn of the mechanised, factory-based urban lifestyle.

That the old paradigm must die and be reborn is a certainty – the only question is how we will choose to interact with this process. We can take advantage of the Shiva-esque dance of destruction and creation that is the Uranus in Aries era by recreating our world from the inside out.

SCOTLAND – ANCIENT NATION ABOUT TO FLEDGE?

Scotland’s national and cultural identity is defined by our sense of place, our sense of history and our sense of self. It is defined by what it means to be Scottish and to live in a modern Scotland in a modern world. It is the tie that binds people together.

The Scottish Government has now officially begun its campaign for Independence, and her people will decide their own fate two years from now. Much is at stake, and I believe the motivation of the Scots could not be more profound than when considering national identity and Scotland’s potential new place in the world.

Naysayers declare that independence is a retrograde step on their envisioned road to global connectedness and the blurring of national identities. But the culture of a nation is an integral part of individual identity and sense of belonging - a macrocosm of family. And based on the evidence of natural systems, to deny distinct nationhood and to homogenize would be a backward step, since the modern evolutionary view is toward selective specialism that co-operates with, and adds distinction to, the whole.

Fractal geometry is Nature’s elegant and beautiful signature, as she takes a simple shape and iterates it over and over into the most incredibly beautiful and complex structures. A tree iterates its shape from the macrocosm, the trunk – through the branches and on outward to the smallest twig in almost infinite self same repetitions. A view of a piece of coastline, smaller each time, will repeat the larger view. Highly evolved systems contain ever more complex and distinct expressions and patterns which are nonetheless fully connected and meaningful parts of the whole.

We are distinct expressions, or fractals, of a greater whole – family, community, national culture, species, biosphere, and so on. And we are also the greater whole of a vast conglomeration of trillions of individual cells that have intelligently assembled together and assumed distinct families and ‘nations’ that form the different systems of our living bodies. The cellular nations co-operate and work in full harmony with their neighbouring nations. They remain distinct, fulfilling specialized yet integrated roles within the human biome. As a planetary nation, is Scotland now ready to take her place and fulfil her own unique role within the biosphere?

I found a commonly used ‘date of birth’ for Scotland – the crowning of King Malcolm II at Scone on 25th March 1005 at noon and calculated a chart for Scotland. In this short article I cannot do full justice to a nation and her history – but looking at just the most significant stand out qualities of the chart, her recognisably passionate and proud nature stands out.

A Leo Ascendant denotes a distinct flair, a nation motivated by pride and the need to convince others of her courage. The Ascendant shows vitality, willpower and maybe a slightly exaggerated sense of her own importance. Leo is not naturally a subordinate, but a leader.

With Sun in Aries and Moon in Gemini, Scotland is a restless, argumentative nation that is yet thoughtful and reflective. She is volatile, and her people are quick to make friendships, and also quick to lose interest. A small nation of just over five million, Scotland has generated a disproportionately large number of world-changing inventions, and significant developments in  science, medicine, engineering and the arts.

Mars and the Sun in the tenth house indicate a fiery, exuberant confidence that is bold and proud, and this somehow makes Scotland’s wounds seem all the harder to bear. Saturn is rising close to the Ascendant and squared to Mars – a clear indication of her sense of threat from an aggressive oppressing nation. In the thousand years of her history, Scotland has suffered many calculated acts of oppression by England. Her spirit was brutally wounded at Culloden, Glencoe, the Highland Clearances that created the first diaspora of her peoples, the suppression of the Gaelic language and the wearing of traditional dress. And even today, her bright spirit carries the reverberations of impotent rage and pain at the memory of what was done to her.

Although having many friends in the world and an abundance of natural, intellectual and other gifts, Scotland suffers from a frustrating sense of limitation and a lack of confidence. She suffers an inferiority complex and and worries about taking the wrong direction. She is responsible and caring, yet she needs to love herself more and recognise that she underestimates her abilities.

Looking more closely at the Chart, it contains a Yod, with Moon and Mars in sextile, both quincunx Pluto in the fifth house. In addition, Chiron is in the midpoint between Moon and Mars, forming an opposition to Pluto. This is complex indeed, and indicates that Scotland’s great flourishing of inspiration, invention and genius is wrapped up with issues of self-worth and self-esteem. All of her creative outpourings spring from a deep desire to be recognised, safe and accepted in the wider world.

Pluto acts as the engine of invention, generating powerful creative impulses, and her  achievements are a source of much pride. There is also great intensity, a kind of all-or-nothing passion about this individualistic nation mother – and in areas of entertainment, the arts and recreation she is rarely light-hearted. Beneath her pride and passion is a jealous, obsessive and controlling heart that fears loss and betrayal.

Scotland’s acquired emotional defences habitually block her emotional expression. She holds her hurts deep, to be remembered forever. However, positively the Moon in Gemini indicates her willingness to reflect deeply on her emotional problems and try to resolve them. Scotland endures a deep seated need for emotional security and acceptance.

Her fundamentally fiery and adventurous nature has abundant drive and ambition, yet she often undermines her own efforts and is puzzled about why. This nation both seeks, and fears, to take ownership of her own power and independence. So often in her history Scotland has had to cut her losses and begin again after expending considerable effort. She must overcome this paradox if she is to take her full place in the wider world.

There is something in the Scottish psyche that appears to be addicted to pain. Struggling with an undefined guilt is part of this, along with a high and clear humanitarian vision. Scotland may feel she cannot overcome her obstacles, but this is not true and the opportunity is now coming for her to learn what she really can do. Scotland, my beloved country, you have been surrounded by energies that have weakened you. You need to stretch up and work for an ideal that is even higher than yourself, an ideal you can idealize and respect.

The Gods of Alchemy III – Pluto

O Blest unfabled Incense Tree that burns in glorious Araby. Half buried to her flaming breast in this bright tree she makes her nest. .. With fume of sweet woods to the skies, pure as a saint’s adoring sighs and warm as a prayer in paradise, her life-breath rose in sacrifice!

Pluto is the final god of alchemy, and as an archetype is in many ways the deepest, darkest and most mysterious of all. It is a metaphor for the universal life force which impels all evolution and transformation. To my mind, of the three gifts presented by the Magi to the child, myrrh has greatest affinity with Pluto.

The Egyptians recognised the antibacterial properties of myrrh, and it was a primary ingredient in their elaborate and skilful mummification processes. This enigmatic tree resin has a unique association with death and the afterlife - with the soul’s journey, its judgement, and its rebirth into new life. Myrrh and Pluto are symbols of the death and resurrection of Christ, the phoenix bird dying and being reborn, her old life and wounds burned away in the purifying fires of her fragrant funeral pyre, revealing the unblemished gold of the spirit.

As lord of the underworld, Pluto has dominion over all things that are hidden from surface appearance. His treasures are the mysteries that lie at the core of birth and death, destruction and creation, erotic power and elemental transformation. Pluto is a compulsive power that burns and consumes, and then transfigures and resurrects. It is abundantly represented in myths of descent into the underworld that purge, transform and remake – Hades and Persephone, Inanna and Ereshkigal, Isis and Osiris; and with gods of destruction and regeneration, death and rebirth - Dionysus, Shiva, and the primal creative and destructive mother goddesses Shakti and Kali. Pluto represents to us what is dark and myserious, taboo, what lurks beneath the thin veneer of civilization and the ego, and the hidden power beneath the surface of the Earth, that is periodically unleashed with great, uncontrolled fury.

Freud’s “broiling cauldron of the instincts”, and Darwin’s ideas of the biological struggle for existence are expressed in literature such as Golding’s Lord of the Flies, revealing that beneath the thin veneer of social convention lies a terrifying and overwhelming force  – chthonic, dark and uncivilized urges borne of hatred, jealousy and desire that drive to acts of violence and murder. Repression of such urges only empowers their machinations from below the threshhold of consciousness, and their influence upon society can be seen in oppression, war, violent uprisings, cruelty, and a lust for power and control. And while it could be argued that the criminals and ‘evil-doers’ of society are at least free and not enslaved to societal repression, freedom does not come from merely acting out these darkest urges. Evil doing is in all of us, even if we don’t always act it out, and the criminal or despot does humanity a great service in bringing such taboos to the surface and revealing them in the light of day. It is from here we are all given opportunities for liberation.

Pluto draws up to the surface that which is ripe for elimination, it reveals to us the truth of our wounds and impurities, our fears and darkest impulses, and their unconscious workings that serve to defeat us. If we are ready, and strong enough to face our own heart of darkness, we too can blaze like the phoenix and be liberated. Fear and denial are the shackles that bind us for, as Carl Jung said, “Only the man who goes through this darkness can hope to make further progress”. To allow the passing away of what is outgrown and no longer necessary for survival is to experience a horror of one’s own extinction, the death of the self. However it is only down and through this underworld process that we can reemerge transformed and free.

Pluto and its sign Scorpio are associated with sexuality and procreation, and Scorpio rules the reproductive organs. The Galactic centre, womb of the Great Mother, is flanked either side by the signs Sagittarius and Scorpio. Looking into the sky, Sagittarius’ arrow and Scorpio’s stinger face each other – and appear to deliberately point out the location of the Galactic centre, locus of the first emergence of matter into physical manifestation in our Galaxy. This is incredible since even today the ‘great womb’ of the nuclear bulge cannot be directly seen due to accumulations of interstellar dust (an indication of Scorpionic secretiveness!). Sagittarius mythologically aims his arrow to the heart of Scorpio, Antares, and Scorpio is then transformed into her creative state, the soaring Eagle (Aquila), releasing creative energy in the form of matter - all symbolic of the energetic process of creation at the core of the Galaxy. (You may note in the diagram that Sagittarius’ arrow actually misses Antares by about 5 degrees – if we are to look to a time when the arrow is true through the heart of the galaxy and into Antares, we have a date of approximately 13,865 BC – could this be the period of the creation of the Zodiac?)

Pluto in the natal chart touches all of us with opportunity to become engulfed in the phoenix flame, and be transformed  alchemically from base metal to gold. Like many people, my life has been punctuated by upheaval, rage and sorrow – and I have experienced periods of profound transformation. Success is leaving behind negativity, coming out of the flames each time feeling only Love. Then it is fruitless to take up arms, or fight. We can focus with clear intention on what we are moving towards, rather than what we normally react against.

Through Pluto we can find the imperfections in the self, and they are easier to deal with than the imperfections of others. Finding fault in others generates negativity, a competitive power-driven, ego-filled desire to dominate, and keeps the cycle of karma and suffering alive.

Our World is now in process of transformation, and the urge is away from Darwinian competition that is ‘red in tooth and claw’ towards an enlightened co-operation that seeks harmony and inclusion. Our final tests, our final opportunities, are imminent. During this time we have an opportunity to face whatever it might be that we secretly hide. Declaring the truth loud and clear is dangerous; it stirs up old ghosts, inner and outer. Yet better this than ignoring and neglecting them. Open the doors and the windows of the heart, become transparent and the beast that lurks within will diminish to no more than a kitten.

Pluto’s fire purposes to set us free of the imprisonment of our nature, to set us above astrological symbolism, and liberate us. In this way, astrology itself is required to evolve and become a purified version of itself in line with our own evolution. When we are healed of fear, guilt, envy, violence - all of these things – then we are FREE and we will begin a new and enlightened day.

The Gods of Alchemy I – Uranus

This is the first of a series of three articles looking at Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, galactic ambassadors of change, as they guide and urge us across the threshhold at the end of time. What awaits us through the gateway of the new Celestial Day? Something unthinkable, unimaginable, leading us on in our journey down river toward the ocean …

Each creature in its own manner clung tightly to the twigs and rocks of the river bottom, for clinging was their way of life, and resisting the current what each had learned from birth

Like the creatures from  Bach’s river bed, we are reluctant to change. We cling to what is familiar – even holding on to pain, hurt, woundings and injustice. We strive to keep the status quo because to change requires a lot of energy and the need to overcome a fear of the unknown … and yes, it is true that our docility and disinclination to change suits the few whose priveleged station relies on it. Our collective awareness is captured moment to moment with fearful media stories, and damning new ‘research’ – all conveniently keeping us just about as free as the cows in the field.

But many things are ending, and the ending of things always releases great surges of energy that manifest in the creation of new paradigms for life, like new young stars following a supernova, or the birth of a new and hopeful culture out of the ashes of a fallen one - perhaps establishing more spiritualised economies, and a heightened connection to non-material awareness.

Three planetary alchemical energies have influenced us for more than two hundred and fifty years, leading us here. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the gods of alchemy, inspiring us to revolution and freedom, gifting us with insight and altered states, and ultimately igniting our transmutation to a perfected state. And to my way of thinking, they come as a package, like three wise kings.

Three magi once pilgrimaged toward a newly born child who would grow up to be a symbol of Cadduceus, an alchemical transmutation from the lesser base metal of low human nature into the pure gold of human perfection. Christ was the literal representation of this symbol at the moment of crucifixion.

Associated with healing and evolution, the cadduceus is an emblem of transformation and transcendence to the highest level of existence, as symbolised by the wings. In Hinduism, the process of inner alchemy is called yoga, or union. Union with the higher self, the Master. The Hindu kundalini sleeps at the base of the body’s pole, the spine, and it is now time for this flaming serpent to be awakened and ascend the spine to eventually reach the crown of the head. Thus the nature will be transformed to its highest - pure and perfect as gold. All dross, base metal, is sloughed off and transmuted by the inner alchemical fire. After this, nothing will be impossible …

The magi brought gifts to the child who would bring a great message to the world - gold, frankincense and myrrh. In this context, gold was associated with royalty, a king. But gold was always an alchemical symbol for transmutation and transcendence - and the gold of the magi clearly represents the alchemical transmutation of  human base metal into spiritual gold, pure and perfect.

Uranus brings sudden change, triggering the moment of transformation. It’s natal placing indicates openness to change and revolutionary desire brought on by sudden flashes of insight and shifts in consciousness. Once changed, we can never go back to the old ways of the past. Uranian energy overthrows the outworn, and revolutionises our way of being. It is the split-second crack in the structure of cultural, established order that opens the floodgates of change. It is the voice of god, a flash of clarity, the tipping point, the awakening power that leads you across the great water to new landscapes filled with new possibilities, the outworn half-life of the old world left behind. The Uranian energy is instantaneous, novel, and irreversible.

A mood of universal destruction and renewal has set its mark on our age.  This mood makes itself felt everywhere… We are living in what the Greeks called the “Kairos” – the right moment for a metamorphosis of the gods, of the fundamental principles and symbols.  This peculiarity of our time, which is certainly not of our conscious choosing, is the expression of the unconscious man within us who is changing.

In these times many are living lives they want no part of. Parental expectations, societal pressure, and the need to fit in and belong drive us to stick with a job we hate, unfulfilling relationships, and friends who do not know us. But what really matters is that most are now acutely aware of their false and limiting circumstances, and the awareness is becoming intolerable.

Great energies now engulf us, breaking down the old forms and releasing imprisoned energy, enabling us to release ourselves from the tyranny of containment and a prescribed life, and to leave behind an old form that has run its course. We are challenged now to move beyond our physical, material existence. To become of finer stuff. In the great times ahead we may struggle to define ourselves in this new world, this new Earth, far from the familiar denseness and slowness of the old exstence. But we will be free.

The magi bring their energies and gifts to bear, urging the turning away, then the falling away and dissolution of the old forms. The final transformation, slipping out of the heavy old overcoat that is an outworn paradigm, is now imminent. Some will cling to the old and familiar – like one imprisoned for so long he clings to his cell even after his shackles have been removed and the door unlocked …

There are birth pains, cries at the end of time. What is  beyond no one can know – but still we must go on, face this new portal and walk through. It is in a moment, the briefest moment, that transformation occurs …

The river delighteth to lift us free, if only we dare to let go. Our true work is this voyage, this adventure
